The Yoga Institute offers a diverse range of general classes, short courses where you can deepen your understanding of yoga and also specialised yoga (e.g.: Yoga for Insomnia) to meet specific needs.
Our classes are small and we focus on adapting yoga to meet each students unique needs. If you are new to yoga or have been practicing for many several years, ask us about a course that will best suit you. Alternatively check our our timetable for current courses and classes.
General or Casual Classes
Everyone most everyone. No advanced booking is required. Please arrive 10 minutes before the class starts.
These classes are for Yoga students who have some experience of the basics of Yoga postures and breath awareness.
The focus of the classes is on the Yoga postures (asanas), which help bring health, strength and flexibility in the body. This also fosters focus of the mind and greater self-awareness. Detailed instruction is given on how to do each of the postures correctly, as well how to modify each of them for individual needs. Yoga breathing is taught in conjunction with movement in the postures, and a variety of flowing sequences of postures are developed and practiced. Classes may also include use of sound, chanting, pranayama, visualisation, deep relaxation and meditation.
Intermediate Classes
These classes offer a range of practices for those who are more experienced with Yoga. “Intermediate” means a number of things, including more challenging or more subtle practices. These classes often combine various yoga tools including pranayama (breathing techiques), chanting, visualisation, mediation as well as the yoga postures (asana).
