DIPLOMA & ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

The Yoga Institute (formerly Yoga Sanga Institute) specialises in providing comprehensive yoga teacher training and continuing education courses. YOGA INSTITUTE’S YOGA TEACHER TRAINING COURSES PROVIDE YOU WITH:

  • Over 600 hours of accredited yoga teacher training
  • The choice of Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Continuing Education
  • Ongoing guidance of a mentor-teacher
  • Eligibility for full (Level 1) membership with the Yoga Teachers’ Association of Australia (YTAA), and international certi?cation with the Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation (KHYF), India (Advanced Diploma)
  • Qualifications for professional indemnity insurance
  • Development of your personal yoga practice for physical and mental health

FLEXIBLE COURSES
The Yoga Institute will be running twelve-month Yoga Teacher Training diploma courses commencing in February 2010. The part-time course formats are:

  • Weekend course – based in Surry Hills or Lower North Shore
  • Friday course – on Sydney’s Northern Beaches or Lower North Shore
  • Intensive course - including a series of 9-day course modules

COMPREHENSIVE STUDIES
Based on the world-renowned teachings of Yoga that come from the tradition and lineage of T Krishnamacharya, the Yoga Institute diploma course will cover the following main areas of study:

YOGA HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS AND LIFESTYLE
Including:
- Overview of the history and development of Yoga throughout the ages
- Study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras – the ancient teachings considered to be the “Heart of Yoga”
- The application of these ancient teachings for modern living
- Introduction to other classical teachings of Yoga
- Yoga psychology and mental health

YOGA ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND SUBTLE ENERGY SYSTEMS
Including:
- Applied western anatomy and physiology
- Subtle yogic physiology and energy systems of prana, nadis, kundalini, chakras and mayas

YOGA TECHNIQUES AND INTEGRATED YOGA PRACTICE
Including classical and modern techniques of:
- Asana (yoga postures)
- Pranayama (breathing techniques)
- Meditation
- Mantra, sound and visualisation
- Principles of yoga practice
- Attendance at general yoga classes
- Development of a guided personal yoga practice
- Professional mentoring

TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND INTEGRATED TEACHING PRACTICE
Including:
- Yoga practice planning and development
- Teaching group classes
- Teaching private classes
- Assisting teaching and supervised teaching practicum

MENTORING
In addition to the education and training features of the course, Yoga Institute requires students take up a unique and valuable opportunity for one-on-one mentoring, as an integral part of the training programme. “Mentoring” is a modern word that describes an essential part of the tradition of yoga throughout history. The YTAA recognises and encourages the importance of mentoring, both being a mentor and being mentored, at all levels of training and teaching in yoga.
